The UNITV Progressive Media Outlet
With the rash of media concentration, in America, few can deny the negative affects it has had on the US society as a whole. Localism is down, "minority" ownership is down, female ownership is down and, therefore, quality news programming is significantly down. All of these factors have contributed to a growing American population that is significantly under-educated on local, national, and international events and issues. This is kind of disengagement is a farce and far from a democratic society. It is virtually impossible to have a democratic society when its populous is vastly under-informed when it comes to critical issues in this world. These reasons are why the Nyumburu Leadership Series has decided to pool our social capital resources and create our own progressive and balanced media outlet.
Our UNITV Media Outlet is comprised of a dedicated cadre of community oriented journalists. Our overall goal is to significantly raise the specter of social consciousness of the communities (our viewers) we serve. We know that by providing our viewers with valuable, well researched, comprehensive news programs, we can educate a great many people. However, UNITV does not stop there! We also provide an array of social commentary programs designed to engage audiences and focus on issues that exist within governmentally neglected communities. The issues from governmentally neglected communities are often marginalized by the so-called mainstream media. UNITV does the job they should be doing.
